Semi coke can be used as
(1) Reducing agent for ferroalloys. Compared to metallurgical coke, the use of Yulin semi coke for iron ore production can reduce electricity consumption by 10%, saving 300-500 kW-h per ton, 70-90 kg of coke, and increasing the output of a single furnace by more than 10%. Since the 1990s, a mixture of semi coke and smelting coke has been used as the primary reducing agent in iron ore production.
(2) Blasting media for blast furnaces. Tests on the use of semi coke as a blowing agent for blast furnaces, instead of bituminous coal, have been carried out at a number of iron and steel companies, including Baosteel, Sinosteel, Baosteel, and JISCO. The tests showed that Yulin semi coke is superior to existing high-pressure furnace pulverized coal, and it is technically feasible to prepare semi coke powder, and it is also feasible to inject semi coke powder at a 15% to 30% ratio. The field test of “3200 m³ of blown Shenyang semi coke powder” (semi coke powder accounted for 15% of the total coal consumption) showed that the spraying of medium-temperature semi coke powder had no adverse effect on the operation of the blast furnace and was conducive to desulfurization, and that as long as the ratio of semi coke powder reached 10%, it could save more than 30% of the cost compared with the use of non-smokeless coal. |
