Benzathine Penicillin is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute otitis media, Bacterial infections, Diphtheria carriers, Gonorrhoea, Penicillin sensitive infections, Prophylaxis of rheumatic fever, Streptococal impetigo, Syphilis.
Contra-indications:
Benzathine Penicillin is contraindicated in conditions like Seizures.
Adverse Effects:
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Benzathine Penicillin, which give rise to further complications include Urticaria, Allergic reactions, Serum sickness, Skin reactions.
Drug Interactions:
Benzathine Penicillin is known to interact with other drugs like Chloramphenicol, Probenecid, Tetracycline (HCl).These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Precautions & Warning:
Benzathine penicillin should be used with caution in patients with medical history especially of any kidney disease, stomach or intestine diseases or allergies to penicillins or other antibiotics. Use with caution during pregnancy or lactation.
Use in Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers:
Soluble penicillin G is excreted into human milk. The manufacturer recommends that caution be used when administering benzathine penicillin-procaine penicillin to nursing women.
Treatment/antidote in The Event of Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Storage instructions:
Store below 25 degrees celsius. Protect from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
