1. Bacterial conjunctivitis (due to pneumococci, staphylococci, streptococci, gonococci.Morax bacillus and koch-weeks bacillus etc.). Chloramphenicol does not have any action or the agent responsible for conjunctivitis or viral keratoconjunctivitis, but combats the bacterial over infection, sometimes very pronounced in these cases, and thus distances grave complications.
2. Bacterial keratitis, tn the case of intracorneal abscess or keratitis rosacea one can combine a systemic treatment to the local therapy.
Contra-lndlcatlons:
The use of Chloramphenicol is contra-indicated in persons having previous history of hypersensitivity to Chloramphenicol ailments which can conceal a hemopathy or which require a prolonged treatment forbidding the use of the drops. Chloramphenicol should not be used in minor infections nor as a prophylactic agent against bacterial infection.
Precautions:
Intensive, prolonged or intermittent course of treatments are to be avoided.
Do not to combine Chloramphenicol neither with sulfonamides nor with any other product susceptible to depressing the bone marrow,
Administration and posology:
Two drops two to three times daily, it’s prolonged action allows the prevention of night applications. The healthy eye will be treated prophylactically in the same manner as the sick eye.
